About the Program

What is APAT?

Academy Professional Artist Training, or APAT, is the path for the most dedicated students who want to push their training to a more serious level with the goal of a career in the performing arts. Vocal, monologue, and dance auditions are required.

Students enroll in this training program to best prepare for musical theatre university and conservatory programs, professional regional theatres, Broadway, and other performance careers.

Participation requires students to take Acting, Dance, Voice, the APAT class, and one Academy production each semester. A capstone project will be included in the APAT class time. Required classes must be taken at the Academy unless otherwise allowed by the APAT instructor group.

In addition to classes & lessons, APAT may perform at various events throughout the year as Academy and Lyric Theatre ambassadors. APAT is a two semester-long commitment, spanning the Fall and Spring semesters of each school year.

Please note: While many performance opportunities will be available to APAT students, the APAT track is a training program first, not a performance company. Participation in the APAT program does not guarantee casting in Academy or Lyric professional shows.

* Private voice lessons are required for APAT students but are not included in the package price. Lessons do qualify for scholarship application only for APAT students.

** If your student takes multiple dance classes at a reputable studio, they can comp out for the APAT dance requirement. Package price will not be prorated but students may take another class in place of dance.

*** Performance College Prep is optional but recommended for HS Juniors and Seniors.

Tuition & Enrollment

Fall Semester

Includes APAT class, one dance class, one acting class, one production, all Academy workshops, and optional Performance College Prep.

Spring Semester

$1,400
Same full package as Fall semester. Continued commitment to the full-year APAT program is required.
Scholarships are available for APAT tuition. Work Study opportunities will also be available for some students to help offset tuition cost. If accepted, full APAT program enrollment and attendance is required. Some class placements will be based on your fall audition and dance call.

APAT auditions take place each Fall. All three components below are required.

Prepared Song A 1-minute, memorized cut of a song. Please bring sheet music of your audition cut clearly marked and in a binder for our accompanist.
🎭
Prepared Monologue A prepared 1-minute monologue.

Dance Call Be ready for the dance call whether or not you are called back for a show.
